NAB attendees witnessed a first in JPEG 2000 compression—1.5G mathematically lossless compression and compression ratios as low as 5:3—from Nevion’s new Ventura VS901 JPEG 2000 compression module.

The Ventura VS901 JPEG 2000 compression series now compresses 3G as well as HD-SDI/SD-SDI with no blocking, tiling or motion dependence. This extremely low latency and high visual quality is ideal for the exacting demands of interactive, live event or any delay-sensitive application, guaranteeing quality with absolute minimal degradation through multiple encode/decode cycles. The new module features 1.5G mathematically lossless compression at 600Mbps, with compression ratios as low as 2:1, a first for the industry.

These enhancements illustrate the power of Nevion’s FPGA-based codecs. The Ventura VS901 series now delivers not only the lowest-latency JPEG 2000 compression, but also the highest bitrate.

Also new to Nevion’s JPEG 2000 lowest-latency compression series, the VS901-AIED-GE module can map compressed video to Gigabit Ethernet or to ASI on the same Ventura module, providing the flexibility of deploying JPEG 2000 over Ethernet/IP or traditional video networks.
